There are a lot of organizations you can join to help both you and the kids...try volunteering with Girl Guides (Girl Scouts). What about becoming a Big Sister? Is there a YMCA in your area? What about a hospital in your area? Look in to your local community centers. They often have 'drop in centers' where parents can leave their children for a couple hour of fun activities while they get some chores completed. Do you have a special skill? Could you volunteer your time to give crafting lessons at Michaels Crafts or volunteer at the local pool to give swimming lessons (only if you're certified, of course!)? Do you play an instrument? You could give lessons!
What about becoming your own drop in center? Put it out there to your friends and family that you are available every Saturday from X to X for them to drop their kids off to you while they run errands etc. It could be as short as an hour, or as long as you want!
Just 'Google' volunteering in your are and I am sure you will find any number of organizations looking for mature, dedicated, reliable volunteers.
Wishing you the best of luck.
